So, you want to play the blues? You've come to the right place! The blues is the musical foundation for rock and roll, jazz, rhythm and blues, hip hop, and many other genres, and all guitarists should have a working knowledge of this essential genre. The blues has its roots in work songs, field hollers, and spirituals sung by enslaved African-Americans, and captured the anguish, hopes, suffering, and resilience of a strong and courageous people. Over the years, the blues evolved into various forms reflecting different circumstances and musical approaches. The blues captures a rich musical history and is one of the most influential musical genres .

Imagine sitting around with friends and family, and busting out a good ol' blues song on the guitar!

Wouldn't that be cool? The blues is the perfect music to play in a group. Learning blues guitar can lead to making some great memories with the people that you care about. Let's take this one step further - visualize not just playing a blues song but playing the song and it sounds just like you want it to sound! It is possible! We can help you make that happen.

Have you always wanted to play the blues

but didn't know how or where to start?

If you're like most people, you found some decent information on YouTube but it took quite a while to sift through all of the junk. The internet is full of misinformation, and many of our students come to us with bad habits learned online. Learning to play guitar is not just about information - the secret is how to apply that information to YOUR playing. At Peak Music, we focus on correct biomechanics of guitar playing and ensure that you know how to correctly hold your pick and guitar, and ensure your fretting hand is positioned for maximum speed and dexterity.

Does this sound familiar? "I'm just so busy! I'll learn to play the blues when I have more time."

When I'm less busy with work, when the kids go back to school, when I'm done with this or that project, after I retire...then I'll learn to play the guitar. If we wait for life to be perfect, we will never learn to play the blues! If we wait for things to be "quiet" or "normal" or "not busy," or if we keep putting off our dreams so other people can live theirs, you are going to wait a very long time to competently play B.B. King's Hoochie Coochie Man, T. Bone Walker's Stormy Monday, or LIttle Walter's Boom Boom Out Go the Lights (and certainly this list could go on and on and on....).

Do I have to practice hours a day to become a good blues player?

Want to know a secret? You don't need to practice for hours each day to be a good guitarist, We can turn you into a competent blues player in as little as 15-20 minutes of focused practice 5-6 days a week. We guarantee it! We work out an individual practice plan for you so you know EXACTLY what to focus on. In reality, 20 minutes of focused practice each day is better than 2 hours of regular "practice." We give you the plan, walk you through it, you follow the program, you become that guitarist. It's that simple.

Who will my teacher be?

The lead teacher for the blues intensive is Jeff Moore, Berkeley trained guitarist and Master Certified Instructor for The Vocalist Studio. Jeff has studied and played the blues extensively, and has a passion for helping people play the guitar well, in the least amount of time possible. His focus is on building foundation skills that allow players to express the music that lives inside of them.

What is the Blues Intensive and why should I sign up?

There are so many reasons! Let's list them:

  • You will receive materials that will allow you to play and study the blues in-depth for at least two months, likely much longer than that.

  • Pre-training component Valued at $197!: In June (weeks 1-4 of the Intensive), you will receive a focused curriculum and weekly individualized practice plan that will prepare you for the classes held in July. The pre-training is done on your own with a Zoom call in the middle of the month so you can ask questions and get your biomechanics checked.

  • Masterclasses Valued at $497! : During the month of July (weeks 5-8), you will attend a weekly in-person class held in our studio (or if you prefer, you can attend via Zoom for an interactive experience). These sessions will be on Thursday evenings at 7 pm during the month of July and are limited to 6 students. You will meet and learn with other people who are interested in the blues while receiving individualized attention during the masterclass.

  • Individualized skill assessment and training map Valued at $125. You will be given a training map geared to your individual needs and skill level.

  • e-book Valued at $97: You will also get an e-book that summarizes the program for later reference. We don't call it a blues intensive for nothing!

What about the pandemic?

What precautions are Peak Music taking?

In-person sessions will not begin until the first week of July (Thursdays at 7 pm), so you can begin your path to blues mastery while we are on pause in New York. Our studio is spacious enough to allow for the appropriate social distancing for 6 students, and we follow all precautionary measures as mandated by the state including the wearing of masks and sanitation of all touch surfaces. If you aren't comfortable coming in to the studio, or if the stay-at-home order is still in effect, all sessions will be presented on Zoom in an interactive format. We have been delivering our lessons for the past two months on Zoom quite successfully.
